Classical Remix

Collective of composers, musicians, writers, and performers

I am artistic director of Classical Remix, a collective of composers, musicians, writers and performers, reimagining historical music through innovative events, recordings, and multi-media projects. Since 2018, we have collaborated with arts and culture partners including the V&A, Royal Academy of Arts, National Trust, Historic Royal Palaces, Ikon Gallery, and Dulwich Picture Gallery among others. Our events have been described as ‘unusual and incredibly special’ [London in Stereo] and as ‘a space where classical music can be enjoyed in a relaxed environment’ [BBC 6 Music].

Previous projects include Lusitano Remixed (2022), a multi-speaker installation that reimagined music by the Renaissance composer Vicente Lusitano. Produced in collaboration with the The Marian Consort and Roderick Williams, the work was described by BBC Culture as “an immersive, spatialised experience, soaking you in a soaring surround-sound while also allowing you to get up-close and intimate with individual voices”. John Cage Remixed (2020), was a re-working of John Cage’s music for prepared piano that used a new digital-instrument created by the artist and musician, Mira Calix. Maderna 100 (2020) saw composer and programmer Daniel James Ross use machine listening and algorithmic-composition technology to reimagine music by the Italian modernist composer, Bruno Maderna. Other projects include an interactive PC game exploring the legacy of Ludwig van Beethoven, an immersive theatre work setting Mozart’s best loved opera arias on synthesisers, and a UK tour of new music based on the archives of synthesiser pioneer, Delia Derbyshire.
